Twood Origin Story

Paul Kroner grew up in a large family, all of whom worked in the family’s dry cleaning business. Twist ties were everywhere. His mother, with quiet creativity, would twist them into little figures and leave them around the shop—surprises for the kids to find. These became known as Twoods.

“You’re such a twood” became a regular phrase in the Kroner household—sometimes affectionate, sometimes teasing, always a little mysterious.

When Paul began creating visual interpretations of these figures, the name “Twood” felt like a natural fit—a reflection of the form, and the emotional twists and turns it represents.

The Twoods became his muse during a period of personal transition, offering a way to explore the duality of the human condition, the complexity of relationships, and the timeless longing to be seen and understood.
